This morning as I was hanging clothes on the line, I had my Bluetooth in my ear but my phone was on the kitchen desk. (Yes, I know…it is funny to think of the contrasting technologies being used together!) I am standing out there placing clothespins on each garment and moving slowly down the line while enjoying the sunshine and the sounds of the outdoors when my Bluetooth starting beeping to warn me that I was getting too far away from the phone. Beep, hang, step, pin, beep, pin…suddenly a male voice says “There is no active phone connected.” Oh no…I got too far away. This scenario made me think about my connection to God. There have been times when I have neglected to read my Bible & pray and have lost that connection to God. I wish there had been a warning that I was getting too far away…well, maybe there was but I wasn’t really paying attention until suddenly, like with the phone, I just wasn’t connected anymore.
I don’t want to be disconnected from God…Jesus said in John 15:5 ““I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
So, I can just go to church once a week and get my “God connection” right? Uh…well, if I only plugged my BlueTooth or my phone in once a week and expected them to stay fully powered, it wouldn’t happen right? So, I have to keep an eye on the power level and charge as needed…it may be a couple of times a day on some days. Yes, I CAN read your Bible and pray more than once a day…I NEED to sometimes!
Lord, please help me to remain in your presence and stay connected to you through my Bible reading and frequent conversations with you. I don’t want to ever be without you. Thank you for teaching me lessons through every day things so that I will be better able to understand and experience you more. Amen.
